We need a new VNC client…

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

We need a VNC client that uses GTK+ for the dialogs, XVideo so that the view can be scaled, and supports mDNS/DNS-SD via Avahi to find VNC servers and encryption to connect to them. Yup, that would be great. Oh, and please keep it simple and stick to the GNOME HIG.

Basically we need a client for Vino.

Update: We have a new VNC client!

The iPod Shuffle is Male Biased

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

You know how men’s dress shirts and women’s blouses have their buttons on opposite sides? It’s okay if you didn’t. The reasons for it are probably sexist anyway and the standard may not last another generation. In any case I just noticed that the iPod Shuffle, if clipped to a button shirt, will only be oriented correctly if you’re a man (or wearing a man’s shirt).

Redi-Edge

Cameron gave me a Benchmade Field Sharpener by Redi-Edge. The thing is awesome. It’s small, fast, effective, and affordable. I really cannot stress this enough — If you own a knife (go check your kitchen) you need one of these.

You can get one at Cam’s store, BladeHQ. Replacement blades can be had for $7 shipped from Klawhorn Industries.

Emus

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

On Sunday we went for a drive exploring our new home town, Spanish Fork, and it’s neighbors. It was a pleasant drive with a few surprises we totally weren’t expecting. The most unexpected find was a couple of Emus on a farm somewhere in Lake Shore.

Joust!

Emus apparently make this weird sound, almost like the sound a watermelon makes when you thump it. See if you can hear it in this short video clip.

We also saw a couple of large game animals (Elk?) in a farmer’s yard.
