The Mono 2.0 LiveCD was delayed a bit from the Mono 2.0 release but it is available now. The delay was cause by me culling unneeded packages too aggressively. On the upside we’re down to only 562MB!
Help your neighbor and join the torrent or grab it from ftp.novell.com.
The content is very nearly the same as the VMware appliance released this morning, including:
- Mono 2.0
- MonoDevelop 1.0
- Banshee 1.2.1
- F-Spot 0.5.0.1
- GNOME Do 0.6.0
- Tomboy 0.12.0
- Tasque 0.1.6
- Various ASP.NET Applications
- … and more
Update: New images have been uploaded, now with sound! It turns out you couldn’t do sound of any kind. The missing package (aside from alsa)? hal-resmgr, which sets ACLs on sound devices amongst other things.
the torrent (http://ftp.novell.com/pub/mono/livecd/Mono-2.0_openSUSE-11.0.iso.torrent) is failing with a ‘bad URL’ message… has been for some time now.
could anyone with more knowhow on torrents see if it can be fixed? I’m principially against downloading the iso if a torrent is available.
It worked for me just now. Please try again.
Hi,
does anyone knows the root password in this LiveCD in order to install it (using virtualBox).
Thanks.
Have you tried “mono” as the root password?
ok it works
Turns out the LiveCD was missing the mono-debugger. If you need the debugger you could download (please use the torrent) the new image. Links in this post have been updated accordingly.
What does one to do to install open suse from the mono live cd?
Pick up the Mono 2.4 LiveCD and use the live installer (shortcut is on the Desktop). IIRC 2.4 is the first release where we’ve included that and a least one user has reported using it successfully.
It might be a good idea to document the installation password for the live cd install someplace. Or just don’t have one (does it serve some purpose other than frustrating potential users?).
And how would you find that documentation? There is a link on the desktop called “Start Here” which takes you to the documentation, which has the root password reasonably clearly stated. I do not know how to make it any more accessible than that.
