County Fair Snickerdoodles

County Fair Snickerdoodles

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Smaller bowl (dry ingredients)

12½ ounces Flour (all purpose)
4 tsp Baking powder
½ tsp Salt

Whisk together.

Mixer (wet ingredients)

½ cup Butter
½ cup Shortening
¾ cup Sugar
¾ cup Brown Sugar

Cream until light, scraping bowl occasionally.

2 Eggs (large)
2 tsp Vanilla

Mix. Scrape bowl again.

Add dry ingredients and mix.

Small bowl (cinnamon sugar)

¼ cup Sugar
2 tsp Cinnamon

Whisk together.

Using a medium cookie scoop (mine seems to be about a #24), scoop cookies into the cinnamon sugar bowl and gently roll to coat. Place on cookie sheet without flattening.

Bake at 400°F for 8-10 minutes (9 has been perfect for me, but ovens vary). Cool completely on pan. Makes about 2 dozen medium snickerdoodles.

Long ago, while living in Spanish Fork, Utah, a dear neighbor gave me the most excellent snickerdoodle I've ever had. "These could win at a county fair!" I declared. "They have!" she replied, and then jotted down the recipe for me.
